For my zines for project 1, I decided to design and create a zine that incorporated two of my favorite hobbies. Those two hobbies are surfing and snowboarding. When I am back home in the Bay Area in California I really enjoy being in the ocean and surfing and I try to go over to the beach any chance I get. When I am back at school in Boulder I try to drive up to the mountains and go snowboarding any time I can during the winter when there is snow. I think I enjoy surfing more than I do snowboarding, but as it is rather hard to surf in Colorado, I satisfy myself in the winter months by going up to the mountain with my friends to board. For my zine, I did not want to focus solely on one activity, so I decided to think of a way to merge the two sports. As they are similar activities, I thought it would be interesting and funny to mix the two, putting surfers up in the mountains in the snow, and having snowboarders down by the beach on some waves. A few of my images are of surfers doing different tricks in the snow, while others show snowboarders ripping on some waves. For my illustrator images I drew different surfing and boarding scenes and materials. I also chose to draw some different familiar logos that are of surfing and snowboarding brands. Overall, I feel I did a good job of completing my goal of incorporating and merging my two favorite hobbies. I am pleased with the different weird and funny images that I created.
